Eshima, located in the sea near Iwaya Port on Awaji Island, is a legendary island said to be one of the "Onokoro Islands" that appear in Japan's creation myth. It's said to be the first island where the two gods Izanagi and Izanami were born, and its sacred atmosphere has drawn people to the island since ancient times. The rock surface, eroded by waves into complex shapes, reveals different expressions depending on the angle from which it is viewed, making it seem like a work of art created by nature.

Eshima is particularly spectacular at sunset. The sun setting over the Seto Inland Sea paints the unique rock surface orange, creating a mystical scene. This beautiful view attracts many photography enthusiasts and is known as one of Awaji Island's most popular sunset spots. The island is also lit up at night, creating a fantastical atmosphere that is completely different from the daytime.
