The god of matchmaking and fertility, quietly nestled among the bamboo forest paths of Arashiyama, is an ancient shrine with a long history that even appears in The Tale of Genji, and is a quiet power spot with beautiful black wooden torii gates and moss-covered gardens.
Tucked away midway through the bamboo forest path in Arashiyama, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, Nonomiya Shrine is an ancient shrine with a long history, attracting many worshippers as the god of matchmaking and fertility. It was once believed to be the place where the Saio (female priestess) serving at Ise Grand Shrine purified themselves, and its history dates back to the Heian period. It is said to be particularly effective in bringing about good fortune in love, and if you stroke the "Turtle Stone" on the grounds while making a wish, your wish will be granted within a year.

Nonomiya Shrine's greatest attraction is its unique atmosphere. The rare "black wood torii" (shrine gate) features the bark still attached, creating a beautiful appearance in harmony with nature. The grounds are surrounded by a moss-covered garden, and the mystical atmosphere of the bamboo forest path creates a picturesque landscape. The quiet, solemn atmosphere of the grounds is soothing.

Nonomiya Shrine is a historic site that also appears in the "Kasuga" chapter of the Tale of Genji. It is also known as the place where Hikaru Genji visited Rokujo no Miyasudokoro, and is a quiet power spot where you can feel the romance of history.
