This is a group of traditional buildings in the old town of Nagahama, centered around Kurokabe Square, and remains from the Edo period to the Meiji period, creating a retro-modern streetscape with cafes, galleries, and more.
Known as the largest glass art exhibition area in western Japan, Kurokabe Square is a popular tourist spot for both domestic and international visitors, featuring glass shops, workshops, galleries, and hands-on classes.

The retro-style streets lined with black-plastered merchant houses are lined with glassware shops, cafes, and restaurants, attracting many visitors. Many of the glassware, in particular, are beautifully handcrafted and make perfect souvenirs.

The greatest attraction of Kurokabe Square is the diverse experiences it offers, beyond simply browsing the shops. The glass workshop offers hands-on classes where you can create your own glassware, a fun experience for children and adults alike. There are also art galleries and museums scattered throughout the area, allowing you to experience history and culture.

Kurokabe Square is also a great place to enjoy a gourmet experience. A wide variety of menus are available, including gourmet food made with local Nagahama ingredients and handmade sweets.
