Located in Saga City, this castle ruin is famous for the Saga Castle Honmaru History Museum, one of Japan's largest restored wooden buildings. It is a popular spot where you can enjoy the grand scale of the castle while experiencing history and culture.
Saga Castle Ruins, located in Saga City, is the site of the castle that served as the residence of the Nabeshima clan, feudal lords of the Saga domain during the Edo period. It is one of Japan's 100 most famous castles. Built in the early Edo period as the residence of the Nabeshima clan of the Saga domain, the castle tower and many other buildings were lost due to the castle abolition order issued in 1871 (Meiji 4). However, portions of the castle have been restored and are now open to the public as the Saga Castle Honmaru History Museum, one of Japan's largest wooden reconstructions. The museum faithfully recreates the original Honmaru Palace of Saga Castle, and its grand scale is truly impressive. Inside, visitors can learn about the history and culture of the Saga domain and Saga's role from the end of the Edo period through the Meiji Restoration through exhibits and materials.

The only remaining structure is the Shachi-no-mon Gate (Important Cultural Property).

The greatest attraction of Saga Castle Ruins is the opportunity to stroll through its vast grounds. Traces of the time, such as moats and stone walls, remain in various places, giving a sense of the weight of history. In particular, lotus flowers bloom in the moat, and in spring cherry blossoms create a beautiful scene, allowing you to enjoy the harmony of nature and history in every season. After touring the history museum, it is also a good idea to take a relaxing break in the spacious park.
