The ruins of Oka Castle, located in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture, is one of Japan's 100 most famous castles. Known as an impregnable castle, its impressive stone walls remain.
Located in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture, Oka Castle Ruins are the remains of a mountain fortress built on Mt. Tenjin, 325 meters above sea level. It spans an impressive 2,500 meters from east to west. Known as an impregnable fortress, only its stone walls remain, conveying its magnificent appearance. Known for its beautiful stone walls, the castle is awe-inspiring in its sheer scale. It's also famous as the inspiration for Rentaro Taki's signature song, "Kojo no Tsuki," and attracts not only history buffs but also many tourists.

The greatest attraction of Oka Castle Ruins is its stunning scenery. From the ruins, visitors can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Taketa cityscape and the distant Aso Mountains. Enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons, from cherry blossoms in full bloom in spring to autumn foliage adorning the landscape.

It's said that the castle was originally built in 1185 to welcome Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
