This is a long-established shichimi pepper shop located in the Asakusa Shin-Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa. The popular experience of mixing the spiciness and aroma to your liking is a great way to combine this with a visit to Sensoji Temple and get a taste of Edo as a souvenir.
Founded in 1620. Choose your shichimi spice level (very spicy, medium, mild, or none) at the counter, and watch as a craftsman adjusts the blend of the seven ingredients, including sansho pepper, sesame, and dried tangerine peel, right before your eyes. It boasts a distinctive Kanto-style savory flavor, accented with roasted chili peppers called "yakiko."
Available in a variety of packaging, including bottles, cans, and refill bags, it's a popular Tokyo souvenir that's lightweight and easy to give away.
Sensoji Temple, Nakamise, Hoppy Street, and Sumida River Terrace are all within walking distance. Watch the demonstration and discuss the blend that will go best with your meal, making for a memorable treat. English guides are also available, making it a safe choice for those accompanied by international guests.
