Gunma Prefectural Museum of Natural History, located in Tomioka City, is a famous museum in Gunma where you can experience the story of dinosaurs and the Earth through spectacular exhibits. You can learn about the origins and evolution of the Earth.
Surrounded by the greenery of Momijidaira Comprehensive Park, the Gunma Museum of Natural History is a learning hub where you can experience a 4.6 billion-year time travel of the Earth. Passing through the entrance, you'll find the "Earth's Formation" zone, showcasing layers of rock, fossils, and minerals, before moving on to a large-scale exhibit tracing the evolution of life, complete with light and sound effects for a more immersive experience.

The most popular exhibit is the dinosaur floor, featuring moving reconstructions and full-body skeletons. Children and adults alike will be captivated by the roar of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and the appearance of a pterosaur. The Darwin Room and Gunma Nature Diorama offer a immersive introduction to the ecology of rural woodlands, mountains, and rivers. Experience the ecology of the satoyama, mountainous regions, and rivers with interactive exhibits, microscopic observations, and mini-explanations and workshops on weekends, offering a truly "see, touch, and learn" experience.

The museum is stroller-friendly, and the museum is equipped with nursing rooms, lockers, and a museum shop. While the permanent exhibits alone take 90 to 120 minutes, a half-day plan is recommended if you also want to explore the special exhibitions. You can stay here comfortably even on rainy days, and on sunny days you can enjoy a stroll in the park, which increases your satisfaction. It is also close to the Tomioka Silk Mill, a World Heritage Site, making it a convenient place to stop by for family trips, field trips, or train or car trips.
