This urban aquarium, with its iconic glass dome, is home to a variety of exhibits, including the famous tuna swimming tank and the "Tokyo Sea," making it a staple of Tokyo tourism, perfect for a rainy day date or family trip.
Kasai Rinkai Aquarium is a popular attraction located within Kasai Rinkai Park, facing Tokyo Bay. Entering the basement through a glass dome reveals a series of large-scale exhibits, including a 2,200-ton donut-shaped tuna tank. Learn about marine ecology in the heart of Tokyo and enjoy the photogenic scenery. The mostly indoor route means you can enjoy the park safely, even on rainy days.

The tour switches perspectives from "The World's Oceans," "The Deep Sea," "Shore Creatures," and "Tokyo's Oceans," allowing you to experience the diversity of the ocean in three dimensions. The "Tokyo's Oceans" section recreates the marine environment of Tokyo, from the open ocean off the Ogasawara and Izu Islands to the inner and outer bays of Tokyo Bay and the tidal flats. The light filtering through the tanks and the flow of water convey the various expressions, making the exhibit easy to understand even for first-time visitors.

The outdoor "Penguin Ecology" section, one of Japan's largest, houses four species of penguins: king penguins, southern rockhoppers, Humboldt penguins, and fairy penguins. With plenty of opportunities for feedings, staff commentary, special exhibits, and behind-the-scenes experiences, it's sure to entertain everyone, from children to adults. In the summer, the park offers extended opening hours for "evening cool-downs," making it an easy place to incorporate into your nighttime plans to take in the park's nightscape.

[Useful Concerns]
Kasai Rinkai Aquarium is a public facility run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Compared to private aquariums, admission fees are lower and the park emphasizes education and research. While it lacks flashy shows and attractions, its benefits include affordable admission, extensive educational exhibits, and a relaxed viewing environment. However, its entertainment value, including dolphin shows, and the spectacular customer service and production may be inferior to those of private facilities, but it's still well worth a visit.
