In late autumn, the mountain village, with its rice terraces and thatched roofs, is covered in a crimson carpet. Koshihata Furusato Village is a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves, with the best time to see them being in early November, where you can enjoy both photogenic scenery and a stroll through the countryside.
Located at an altitude of approximately 600 meters in Kagamino Town, Okayama, Koshihata Furusato Village boasts a charming village landscape featuring thatched roof houses and stone pavements. In autumn, a "maple tunnel" and a red carpet of fallen leaves appear, creating a unique atmosphere as the pristine satoyama landscape and autumn foliage overlap. The "Koshihata Mini Maple Festival," rich with local flavor, is held annually around November 3rd, bustling with visitors for fall foliage hikes and specialty food stalls.
While Okutsukei Valley is popular for its autumn foliage, this area offers relatively fewer visitors, allowing you to enjoy the foliage.

The starting point for this walk is the area around "Furusato no Ie." A gentle stroll along the footpath offers endless opportunities to capture the thatched roof landscape and the gradations of color. Koshihata is also the home of "Tatara Ironworks," and the village boasts stone-paved roads and related remains. For photography, the best time to visit is in the morning when the sun is slanting and there's no wind. The ground is slippery with fallen leaves, so wear comfortable shoes.
