"Takebe Medaka School" is an educational aquarium nestled in the Satoyama area of Takebe. It houses displays of medaka and freshwater fish, as well as a "Toy Inn" selling local toys, making it a great place to experience nature and have fun with your children even in the rain.
The museum, with its pleasant wood scent, is home to a mini freshwater aquarium showcasing Asahikawa's native killifish, carp, and catfish, as well as a restored waterside area called "Spring Stream." Unlike urban aquariums, this aquarium's appeal lies in its "natural" exhibits. Exploring the tanks along the covered walkway allows visitors to observe up close how the creatures' expressions change with the seasons and water levels. It's also a great place for children's summer vacation independent research projects.

The exhibits primarily feature locally caught river fish, so many of them are familiar to children who love fishing, making them a great resource for inspiration.

The museum also houses the "Toy Inn," a collection of local toys made from natural materials, including clay dolls, papier-mâché dolls, and spinning tops from all over Japan.

The adjacent site is home to the "Takebe Yogurt Workshop," which sells yogurt and serves parfaits.
