Sumiyoshi Shrine in Shimonoseki is a prominent shrine in Nagato Province and is considered one of the Ichinomiya shrines. Alongside the Sumiyoshi Shrines in Osaka and Hakata, it is one of the three major Sumiyoshi Shrines in Japan.
The main hall of the Sumiyoshi Shrine was constructed in the early Muromachi period and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan.
