Chogosonshi-ji Temple

Chogosonshiji Temple is the head temple of the Shigisan Shingon sect of Buddhism, located on Mt. The mountain name is Mt. Shigi. The principal object of worship is Bishamonten.
Chogosonshi-ji Temple is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in the second year of Emperor Yomei (587). Since the Heian period, the temple has attracted the faith of warriors, and during the Sengoku period, Hisahide Matsunaga built Shigisan Castle, but Hisahide was attacked by Nobunaga Oda and killed himself, and the temple was also destroyed by fire.

Chogosonshi-ji Temple, which was rebuilt by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, has continued to attract many worshipers since then. Today, about 1 million people visit the shrine in the year of the tiger, and about 500,000 people visit the temple during the Tiger Festival. It is a power spot that represents Nara.

The highlight of Chogosonshi-ji Temple is Bishamonten, the principal object of worship. Bishamonten is one of the seven gods of good fortune and is worshiped as a god of wealth and good fortune. Chogosonshi-ji's Bishamonten is a huge wooden statue with a height of about 10 meters, and is one of the most impressive in Japan.

In addition to Bishamonten, Chogosonshi-ji Temple also houses many other Buddhist statues such as Fudo Myo-o and Dainichi Nyorai. In addition, there are various attractions in the precincts, such as the treasure hall and Bishamonten's washroom.
