Miidera Chikara Mochi Honke is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop with over 100 years of history, located in front of the gate of Miidera (Onjoji Temple) in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. The "Chikara Mochi" served here is said to be named after the legend of Benkei of Miidera Temple, and has long been loved by locals and tourists as a famous confectionery representing Otsu. Its characteristic is that the freshly made soft rice cake is generously sprinkled with fragrant homemade kinako. When you put it in your mouth, the fragrant kinako and the mochi with a modest sweetness melt in your mouth, and you can enjoy a gentle taste that is somehow nostalgic.

If you eat it in the shop, it will be served with hot tea, and you can enjoy Chikara Mochi slowly in a calm atmosphere that makes you feel the history of Miidera. You can take it home as a souvenir, and the boxed Chikara Mochi is also perfect as a souvenir for family and friends. Although it does not keep well, it is best to eat it on the spot to enjoy the freshly made deliciousness. No additives, just simple ingredients, this is a masterpiece that highlights the quality of the ingredients and the craftsmanship of the artisans.

Miidera Chikara Mochi is not only delicious, but is also deeply connected to the culture of the historic temple of Miidera. You will be able to appreciate its taste even more by stopping by after visiting Miidera.

It is also sold at the Otsu Service Area on the Meishin Expressway and the Miidera Chikara Mochi Honke Kusatsu PA Store (Meishin Expressway/Outbound).

There is no parking lot dedicated to the store. However, the Otsu City Hamaotsu Public Parking Lot at Biwako Hamaotsu Station costs 150 yen per 30 minutes (the first 30 minutes are free). However, it is a little far away.
