Located in Yamaguchi City, this garden is a nationally designated historic site and scenic spot said to have been created by the Muromachi period Buddhist painter-monk Sesshu. Experience the world of Zen amid the beauty and tranquility of the four seasons.
The Sesshu Garden at Jyoeiji Temple is said to have been commissioned by the monk artist Sesshu to be used as a garden for Myokiji Temple, which was built by Ouchi Masahiro as a villa in the mid-Muromachi period.

In front of the main hall on the south side, a stone called Mt. Fuji, which symbolizes Japan, is placed in the center, and in front of it is a stone arrangement that resembles the three mountains and five mountains of mainland China, called Zhongnan Mountain, Wutai Mountain, Lu Mountain, Huashan, Hengshan, and Baizhang Mountain. It is said that this was an idea that Sesshu got from the scenery of mainland China.

The view of the garden from inside is wonderful.

[Trivia]
Sesshu was a Zen monk active in the Muromachi period, and made great achievements in ink painting and garden design. It is said that he created the garden at Jyoeiji Temple during his stay, and it is one of his masterpieces.
