Saizan Koryuji is an ancient Tendai temple that is said to have been founded in 642. It is also known as an extra temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage and has attracted many believers since ancient times. It is especially famous for the beautiful autumn leaves that decorate the temple grounds. In autumn, the red and yellow trees create a stunning contrast with the historic temple buildings, captivating visitors. The scenery is famous as the "Iyo autumn leaves spot," and many tourists visit every year.

The temple grounds are dotted with quaint historical buildings, including the main hall, which is said to have been built in the Heian period, the bell tower, and the Niomon gate. In particular, the stone steps leading from the Niomon gate are surrounded by trees on both sides, creating a tunnel-like beauty that is breathtaking in the seasons of new greenery and autumn leaves.
