The garden behind the main hall, designed by Sesshu, is a pond garden built in 1479. The artificial hill representing Mount Sumeru, the heart-shaped pond, the natural greenery and the stonework create a tranquil worldview reminiscent of a sumi-e painting. The view from the Shoin is perfect for appreciating the garden with a Zen mind, and you can enjoy its different expressions throughout the seasons, especially in the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn leaves.

There is also a Japanese garden designed by Sesshu at the nearby Iko-ji Temple.
