The main deity is Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, and the shrine is known for its benefits such as luck in winning, good fortune, protection from misfortune, safety in the home, and recovery from illness, and many people visit the shrine especially before a competition. The grounds are surrounded by the trees of Chigusa Forest, and are enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.
Many historical buildings remain within the grounds, including the main hall designated as a national treasure, the Otori-zukuri shrine building, the auxiliary and subordinate shrines designated as national treasures, and the torii gate designated as an important cultural property.
In the center of the grounds, a giant sacred camphor tree stands tall, and its powerful vitality gives energy to those who visit. The beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in autumn attract many worshippers and photography enthusiasts.
Otori Taisha Shrine holds various religious ceremonies and festivals throughout the year, and the Danjiri Festival held in October is a particularly grand festival in which brave danjiri floats parade through the town, attracting many spectators.
[Trivia]
Otori Taisha Shrine is closely related to Shiratori no Misasagi, the place where Emperor Yamato Takeru died, and the name "Otori" comes from the legend that Emperor Yamato Takeru turned into a swan and descended on this land.
