Honzanji Temple in Misaki Town

Honzanji Temple is a historic Tendai sect temple located in Misaki Town, Kume County, which is home to many important national cultural properties.
Iwama-san Honzan-ji Temple of the Tendai sect has a deep connection with the monk Honen Shonin, and it is said that his parents visited the temple and prayed for a child, and were blessed with him. In Kumenan-cho at the foot of the mountain, there is Tanjo-ji Temple, where the monk Honen is said to have been born.

The current main hall was rebuilt in 1350.
The main hall, three-story pagoda, and pagoda have all been designated Important Cultural Properties by the nation.

There is also a large boxwood tree estimated to be 360 ​​years old.
