This famous temple has an impressive vermilion-painted Kannon Hall on a cliff overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. It was founded in the Heian period, and the current building was rebuilt by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It is particularly known as a sacred place for praying for safe childbirth, and many worshippers come to visit. Inside the Kannon Hall, many "breast-shaped" votive plaques that were donated by people who came to pray for safe childbirth are hung, giving a sense of the unique religious culture.
