Built by castle master Todo Takatora, this castle is one of Japan's three great water castles. It features a vast moat that draws in seawater, and the beautiful castle tower offers a spectacular view of the Seto Inland Sea. It has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Great Castles.
It is one of the "Three Great Water Castles of Japan" with a vast moat that draws in seawater from the inland sea. The unusual moat, where saltwater fish swim, not only enhances the castle's defensive function, but also attracts visitors with its beautiful scenery.

The current five-story, six-storey castle tower was rebuilt in 1980. The interior is open to the public as a local history museum, and exhibits include the history of Imabari, documents related to Todo Takatora, and armor. From the observation deck on the top floor, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of not only Imabari city, but also the Seto Inland Sea with its many islands and the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge.

Inside the castle, you can enjoy strolling through Fukiage Shrine, which enshrines Takatora, and beautiful gardens. It is also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and in spring the contrast between the cherry blossoms surrounding the moat and the castle tower is particularly stunning. It is a representative tourist spot of Imabari, where historical value and natural beauty are combined.
