Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History is located next to the east side of the World Heritage site Himeji Castle, and its unique building design is eye-catching. It was designed by modern architect Kenzo Tange, who also designed the Tokyo National Museum Horyuji Treasure Gallery, and is a museum that harmonizes with the beautiful scenery of Himeji Castle while also combining modern beauty.

The museum's collection of approximately 200,000 items, ranging from the Kofun period to modern times, introduces a wide range of Hyogo Prefecture's history and culture.

The permanent exhibition is broadly divided into three areas: "Ancient and Medieval," "Early Modern and Modern," and "Contemporary."

The exhibition is not just about looking at materials, but also uses dioramas that recreate life at the time, as well as videos and audio guides, and is designed to allow visitors to experience history using all five senses. There is also a comprehensive experience corner for children, where they can touch old tools, try on costumes, and become familiar with history while playing.
In the gathering room on the first floor, you can try on junihitoe and armor, and experience touching swords.

There is a cafe called "Chagura" and a museum shop on the first floor.
