Osaka Municipal Tennoji Zoo is the third oldest zoo in Japan, located in the center of Osaka. It is home to about 1,000 animals of 170 species, and is a relaxing spot where you can meet a variety of animals and observe their lively behavior, even while in the city.
The zoo's unique feature is that it actively incorporates "ecological exhibits" that recreate the habitats of the animals as much as possible. For example, in the African Savannah Zone, you can see giraffes, zebras, hippos, lions, and other animals living together, giving you a sense of realism as if you were really visiting the savanna.

In the zoo, you can meet not only popular animals such as lions, tigers, and elephants, but also adorable animals such as red pandas and polar bears. Events such as feeding times for animals and guided explanations by zookeepers are also held, allowing you to learn more about the ecology and personalities of each animal. In particular, if you visit during times when the animals are most active, you may be able to observe interesting behaviors that you don't usually see.

The zoo does not just exhibit animals, but also puts effort into species preservation and environmental education. There are also plenty of workshops and events for children, providing opportunities for them to develop an interest in the importance of life and the natural environment through interaction with animals.

Abeno Harukas is located at Tennoji Ekimae Station, which is nearby.

[Trivia]

- At the Friendship Garden, you can observe and interact with goats, sheep, guinea pigs, and other animals up close.

- To combat the heatwaves, oscillating sprinklers have been installed on the lawns in front of the emu exhibit and the savanna shop. You can cool off by splashing in the water, and it's also great for small children to play in the water.
