This zoo in Hino City, Tokyo, has a vast area where animals live freely. You can ride the popular lion bus to observe lions, meet koalas and orangutans, and enjoy the zoo's natural environment.
Tama Zoo is one of Japan's leading zoos, with a vast area of land equivalent to about 11 Tokyo Domes. Instead of cages, the zoo uses a "fenceless free-range system" with trenches and glass partitions, allowing visitors to observe animals living in conditions closer to their natural surroundings. Divided into four zones, the Asian Garden, African Garden, Australian Garden, and Insectarium, visitors can encounter a variety of animals from all over the world.

Particularly popular is the Lion Bus (additional charge) where visitors can observe lions up close. The experience of watching a group of lions from inside the bus is as impressive as being in a safari park. Tama Zoo is also packed with attractions unique to the park, such as Japan's rare koala breeding exhibit and an orangutan skywalk.

The park has a rugged terrain, but a free shuttle bus called the "Watching Center" and a slope car are also in operation, so even those who are not confident in their physical strength or those with small children can enjoy themselves with peace of mind. This is a zoo rich in nature that is easily accessible from the city center, where you can spend the whole day learning about the ecology of animals without getting bored.

It is located a short walk from Tama Dobutsu Koen Station on the Tama Monorail.
