It is a tourist spot representing Kamakura. It is famous as a shrine associated with the first shogun of Kamakura, Minamoto no Yoritomo. It is a power spot where history and nature blend together.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a historic shrine that was established in its current location by Minamoto no Yoritomo, who founded the Kamakura Shogunate. It enshrines Hachiman, the guardian deity of samurai, and has long been said to bring good fortune in battle and victory, attracting many worshippers. Walking along the Dankazura of Wakamiya Oji, the approach to the main shrine, visitors can feel the weight of history.

The shrine grounds are vast, and there are many sights to see, including the main shrine, which is a nationally designated important cultural property, the dance hall, and Maruyama Inari Shrine. The beautiful nature of the shrine changes with the seasons, with cherry blossoms in spring, lotus flowers in summer, and autumn leaves in autumn, showing different faces with each season, soothing worshippers. In particular, the red and white lotus floating in Genpei Pond is famous as a summer highlight.

In addition, various festivals and horseback archery rituals are held throughout the year, allowing you to see traditional events that have been handed down since ancient times up close. The Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine Annual Festival, held every year for three days from September 14th to September 16th, is known as one of the three major festivals in Kamakura. It is the center of tourism in Kamakura and is a popular spot for domestic and international tourists, where you can experience history, culture, and the beauty of nature all at once.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Museum (Kamakura Bunkakan Tsuruoka Museum) is located within the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and is a facility that introduces the history, culture, and nature of Kamakura. The modernist building was designed by architect Junzo Sakakura and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It is characterized by the fact that you can enjoy not only the exhibits but also the architecture and nature.
