This is a preserved steam locomotive line that operates more than 300 days a year, mainly on weekends and holidays. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the Oi River and a nostalgic passenger train journey while enjoying the Thomas the Tank Engine and the unexplored Abt-type section.
Oigawa Railway is a retro railway that runs along the Oi River in Shizuoka Prefecture, and is known for running steam locomotives such as the C10 about 300 days a year. The SL express "Kawane Road" and "Minami Alps" mainly run on weekends and holidays from March to November, and offer a rare experience of feeling the whistle and smoke up close. The train will be suspended for regular inspections from June 2 to October 9, 2025, and is scheduled to resume operation on October 10.
The picture-book-like "Thomas the Tank Engine" runs between Shin-Kanaya and Kawane Onsen Sasamado. On operating days, you can meet characters at the Thomas Fair venue, which is popular with families. The train uses old-style passenger cars, and the clear waters of the Oi River, tea fields, and rural landscapes spread out from the windows, inviting a nostalgic travel experience.
In addition, between Senzu Station and Okuizumi Station, there is the Ikawa Line, which has Japan's only Abt system section, where you can experience the rare experience of climbing a steep gradient with a locomotive and rack rail. There are also "hidden stations" scattered around, such as Okuoikojo Station, which is recommended not only for railway fans but also for tourists who want to take a walk in nature.
