This resort in the sky offers a spectacular panoramic view from an altitude of 2,307m, the highest sea of clouds in Japan, and a starry sky. It is a popular summer resort and a ski resort in the winter.
Paradise in the Sky - Shiga Kogen is a tourist spot located in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture, within Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, where you can enjoy the magnificent nature of Yokoteyama and Shibutoge area. In particular, from the summit of Yokoteyama, which is 2,307 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Northern Alps and even Mt. Fuji in the distance, making it truly worthy of being called a "paradise in the sky". The summit can be easily accessed by Skylator (moving walkway) and Skylift, and you can easily enjoy the magnificent scenery.

In the green season, you can enjoy a stroll through the alpine botanical garden where alpine plants bloom, and trekking from the summit. Especially from summer to autumn, if the conditions are right, you can see a sea of clouds spreading out below you, creating a fantastic sight. In addition, events such as the "Shiga Kogen Sky Festival" are held at night, and you have the opportunity to enjoy Japan's best starry sky from the summit where the city lights do not reach.

At the summit of Mt. Yokote, you can enjoy meals and resting while taking in the spectacular views at the highest bakery in Japan, Yokoteyama Summit Hut, and the observation restaurant Sky Cafe.

[Trivia]
The Yokoteyama Summit Hut at the summit of Mt. Yokote is famous as the highest bakery in Japan. You can enjoy delicious bread amid the spectacular views at an altitude of 2,307m.

[Hidden gem]
The 2307 Manten View Terrace at the summit of Mt. Yokote is popular, but if you go a little further from there and continue on National Route 292 towards Shibu Pass, you will find the Shibu Pass Hotel on the border with Gunma Prefecture, which is also a great spot for a spectacular view. There is also a place behind the Yokoteyama Summit Hut where you can enjoy the spectacular views in relative peace. If you have time, you can take the lift down from Mt. Yokote and then trek to the Kumanoyu Ski Resort, which is a hidden gem to enjoy.

[Useful points of concern]
To get to Yokoteyama, you will have to go through a winding mountain road (National Route 292), so if you are prone to car sickness, you should be careful. The road is closed in winter, so sightseeing is limited to the green season. The temperature at the summit is lower than on the plains, and the weather is changeable, so we recommend bringing something to put on even in summer. Depending on the season, there may be days when you cannot see the sea of clouds, but you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery.
