This is an outdoor sculpture museum where artworks are displayed on a plateau rich in nature at an altitude of 2,000m, with a spectacular view. It is a special place where you can enjoy art and a panoramic view at the same time in the midst of nature.
Utsukushigahara Kogen Art Museum is an outdoor sculpture museum located in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, which opened as a sister museum of the Hakone Open-Air Museum. Utilizing the vast grounds at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, about 250 contemporary sculptures from Japan and abroad are permanently exhibited. **The sight of various art works scattered against the backdrop of blue skies, spreading clouds, and distant mountains is truly a "gallery of nature" that goes beyond the concept of a museum. **Since the works are exhibited outdoors, their appearance changes depending on the light, wind, and weather, and there are new discoveries every time you visit.

In addition to the outdoor exhibition area, there is also an indoor exhibition area and a "children's art museum" for children, offering a variety of art experiences. In particular, viewing the works while strolling through the outdoor exhibition area is a unique experience that allows you to experience art in a hiking mood. From spring to autumn, alpine plants bloom in full bloom, making the collaboration of art and nature even more beautiful.

The museum is adjacent to the Utsukushigahara Kogen Roadside Station, and restaurants and shopping malls are also available.

The Utsukushigahara Kogen Roadside Station is located on the adjacent premises.

[Trivia]
The Utsukushigahara Kogen Museum of Art is located near the summit of Utsukushigahara, one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, and offers a 360-degree view. On a clear day, you can see not only the Northern Alps but also Mt. Fuji in the distance.

[Hidden gem]
The outdoor exhibition area is vast, so there are many works, but the observation terrace just inside the museum entrance on the second floor of the Utsukushigahara Kogen Roadside Station is a great spot to see the entire outdoor exhibition area and the surrounding mountains at once. The weather on the plateau is changeable, but the museum shrouded in mist creates a different, fantastical atmosphere, and you can enjoy a hidden gem of a view.
