[Hidden gem]
The Futami Suspension Bridge is popular, but behind it is Kappa Pool, a mysterious pool where the kappa legend is passed down, and a hidden gem where you can spend a relatively quiet time. In addition, the areas around Jozankei Dam and Hoheikyo Dam, which are located a little away from the hot spring town, are recommended as spots where you can enjoy the magnificent nature. Especially during the autumn foliage season, the autumn leaves reflected on the lake surface are very beautiful.
The symbol of Jozankei Onsen town is the Kappa Family Wishing Hand Bath. It is a 6m-tall welcome tower and hand bath made of locally produced Sapporo soft stone, and when you pour hot water into the kappa statue with a ladle, the hot spring water flows out of its mouth. It is said that if you chant "On Kappaya Unken Sowaka" after purifying your hands, your wishes will come true, and it is a beloved symbol of Jozankei among tourists.
