Aoshima in Miyazaki Prefecture is a small land-tied island with a circumference of 860m, and is a mysterious power spot surrounded by an unusual geological formation known as Oni no Sentakuita (Devil's Washing Board).
Aoshima is a small island located in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, with a circumference of about 1.5 km. Its greatest feature is the wavy rocks that surround it, called "Oni no Sentakuita" (Devil's Washing Board). This is a rock formation that was formed about 7 million years ago, and was eroded by waves over a long period of time, forming a regular wave shape. The strange landscape, as if an ogre had washed his clothes, overwhelms the viewer and gives a sense of the beauty of nature's creation. At low tide, the ogre's washboard appears over a wide area, and you can observe the mysterious topography up close.

Aoshima can be accessed by crossing Yayoi Bridge, about 200 m from the mainland. On the island, Aoshima Shrine, which is said to bring good luck in matchmaking, safe childbirth, and safe voyages, is located. Walking along the approach covered with lush subtropical plants, you will be enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere. The entire island is also famous as a power spot, and there are unique matchmaking spots scattered around, such as votive plaques for love fulfillment and a place to tie colorful "musubi koyori".

In the early morning, the sun rising behind Oni no Sentakuita is beautiful, and at dusk, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the scarlet sky and the strange rocks.

[Useful points of concern]
If you check the low tide times before visiting, you will be able to see more of Oni no Sentakuita, but be careful as it will be almost invisible at high tide.
In addition, since it is a rocky area, it can be slippery, especially when wet. We strongly recommend that you wear comfortable, non-slip shoes.
