Mukabakinotaki is a waterfall located in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and is one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. It is a large, famous waterfall with a drop of 77m and a width of 20m.
Located on the middle of Mt. Gyokushi, this waterfall drops 76.7m down a single cliff. The abundant water volume causes the spray to rise into the basin, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The contrast between the rough rock surface and the clear stream running down it is like a work of art created by nature. It is especially beautiful in the season of fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and in the harsh winter when it turns into an icefall, showing different expressions throughout the seasons.

The name Gyokushi-no-taki is said to come from the poem written by Yamato Takeru-no-mikoto, who saw this waterfall while on his way to conquer the Kumaso, saying, "If I shoot at the Yahazu Falls of Nunobiki, I will see the waterfalls flowing upstream."

There is a walking trail up to the basin, where you can enjoy forest bathing while listening to the murmuring of the clear stream. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the waterfall.

[Useful points of concern]
When accessing the area, care must be taken when driving as there are many narrow mountain roads. The roads on the southern route are relatively wider and easier to drive on than the eastern route. There are many places where it is difficult to pass other vehicles, so care must be taken. In particular, the mountain road 500m away from the parking lot is extremely narrow, so those who are not good at driving should be careful. There are also no convenience stores or toilets in the area, so preparations must be made in advance.
