Shindo Falls is located in Kokonoe Town, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture, and has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls.
It is said that the name Shindo Falls was given because when the waterfall has a large amount of water, it seems as if the surroundings are shaking. The male waterfall has a large amount of water, and the force of the water makes the surroundings shake, which is very impressive. The female waterfall is a very beautiful waterfall, although it does not have a waterfall basin. The view is especially spectacular during the seasons of new green leaves and autumn leaves.

The greatest attraction of Shindo Falls is that it can be seen from Kokonoe "Yume" Suspension Bridge. Kokonoe "Yume" Suspension Bridge is the highest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Japan, with a length of 390m and a height of 173m. You can see the male waterfall and female waterfall of Shindo Falls from the front and enjoy the powerful scenery.

The view from the suspension bridge shows different expressions in each season. You can enjoy the fantastic scenery of fresh green leaves in spring, deep green in summer, and snow-covered in winter. There are observation decks on both sides of the bridge, and you can view the entire suspension bridge and Shindo Falls from various angles. Even if you are not good with heights, the bridge is wide and the handrails are sturdy, so you can cross safely.

[Hidden gem]
In addition to crossing the suspension bridge, you can experience a different power from the top of the suspension bridge by descending the promenade from the south end to the basin of the Shindo Falls. The path to the basin is relatively quiet, making it a hidden gem where you can enjoy a walk while enjoying forest bathing. At the north end of the suspension bridge, there are souvenir shops and restaurants that sell local specialties, so it is a good place to stop by for a break.
In addition, the restaurant Toge no Chaya, located a 3-minute drive from the Kokonoe Yume Grand Suspension Bridge Parking Lot, is popular for its excellent combination of sauce and local chicken, such as the "Local Chicken Charcoal Grill Set Meal."
