Kaname Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located at the source of the Kaname River in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and is one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. The valley scenery created by Otaki, Metaki, and Hirataki is a spectacular spot with a sense of being in a hidden region.
Kaname Falls consists of Otaki, Metaki, and Hirataki. It is located upstream of the Kaname River, a tributary of the Kuma River. Otaki has a drop of 36 meters, Metaki has a drop of 30 meters, and Hirataki has a drop of 10 meters. Surrounded by rich nature, it is a spot full of negative ions. It is a waterfall.

Otaki is impressive for its dynamic appearance as it flows down to the waterfall basin. Metaki is attractive for its graceful appearance as the water springs from the waterfall basin and flows gently down. Hirataki is a calm waterfall that flows down the rock surface.

The promenade is paved up to the waterfall viewing platform next to the parking lot, and it takes about 15 minutes to reach the Otaki observation deck. You can access the Metaki waterfall by crossing the suspension bridge, and it is popular to take a walk surrounded by the cool breeze flowing through the riverbed and negative ions.

It shows different faces in each season, such as fresh green leaves in spring, summer refuge, autumn leaves in autumn, and winter snow, and the Kaname Falls Festival is held in August. In the summer, the surrounding area is chilly, and it is popular among locals as a summer resort.

[Useful points of concern]
The road to access by car is narrow, so you need to drive carefully, but there are some places to wait.

There is parking space for a few cars on the side of the road. There is a toilet under the stairs at the entrance to the waterfall along the road. There is space for about one car on the side of the road near the entrance, but it is more of a waiting area than a parking space, so there is a space for about five cars on the side of the road a few hundred meters from the entrance to the stairs, so it would be better to park there.
