The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge does not have a walkway that pedestrians can freely walk across. However, on the Kobe side, there is a sea promenade called the Maiko Marine Promenade, which passes through the bridge girders of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and protrudes about 47m above sea level, 150m from land, and 317m into the Akashi Strait. In addition, several times a year, an event called the Marine Walk is held, where pedestrians can walk across the bridge to Awaji Island via a managed path.

There were many complaints that the toll was too high, so it was reduced from April 1, 2014.
