This is a valley in Nikko National Park, located upstream of Kinugawa Onsen. It was named after the strange rock formations and rapids that resemble a dragon, and you can enjoy beautiful scenery in all four seasons.
The area between Kinugawa Onsen and Kawaji Onsen is dotted with strangely shaped rocks and bizarre stones, and the sight of the rocks resembles a writhing dragon, hence the name "Ryuokyo".

The charm of Ryuokyo is the beauty of its natural formations. It was formed by erosion of volcanic rocks by the rapids of the Kinugawa River, and the unique landscape of strangely shaped rocks and giant rocks looks like a writhing dragon, hence the name. It is divided into three areas: "Hakuryukyo", where the rock surface looks white, "Seiryukyo", where it looks green, and "Shiryukyo", where it looks purple, and each area has a different look. You can experience the magnificent art created by nature up close.

The charm of this valley lies in its beautiful scenery and the well-maintained hiking trails. In particular, the promenade that runs along the valley stretches for about 3 km one way, allowing you to stroll through the majestic nature at your own pace. Many tourists visit in spring when the fresh greenery is beautiful, in summer when it is refreshing, and in autumn when the mountains are painted with fiery red leaves. There are several suspension bridges along the promenade, from which the view of the valley below is even more impressive.
