Aso Shrine has been revered as the No. 1 shrine in Higo Province since ancient times, combining with volcanic worship with the crater of Mount Aso as its sacred object.

Located at the foot of Mount Aso, it is surrounded by nature. The shrine building is built with the majestic scenery of Mount Aso in the background, and you can enjoy the magnificent scenery.

The shrine suffered severe damage in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, but with the support of many people, restoration and reconstruction are underway.
The tower gate and worship hall were designated as important cultural properties of the country, but collapsed in the earthquake. Reconstruction is currently underway to restore them to their original state, and you can see the reconstruction up close. The completely reconstructed appearance is impressive.

There are many things to see in the precincts, such as the "Takasago Pine," which is said to bring good luck in finding a partner, and the "Wishing Stone," which is said to grant wishes. You can have a spiritually cleansing experience surrounded by the majestic nature and sacred atmosphere of Aso.
