Located in Ryogoku, Sumida-ku, Tokyo, Edo-Tokyo Museum is a museum that comprehensively introduces the history and culture of Tokyo from the Edo period to the present day. The unique architectural design of the building, built on stilts, resembles a giant storehouse and is a landmark of the town of Ryogoku. The museum is packed with impressive exhibits, including a model of Edo Castle, a full-scale model of Nihonbashi, and dioramas that recreate the streets of the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. Many of the exhibits can be touched and experienced, so adults and children alike can learn about history while having fun.

The greatest attraction of this museum is its large scale and the diversity of its exhibits. The elaborately crafted life-size models and dioramas, such as a tenement house that recreates life in the Edo period, the brick town of Ginza in the Meiji period, and homes in the early Showa period, give you the feeling of having traveled back in time. Not only can you experience the lives of people at that time, but there are also exhibits that you can actually touch, such as firefighter tools and palanquins, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of history through your experiences.

The Edo-Tokyo Museum is an important place to learn about Tokyo's past and gain a deeper understanding of the city today. You can learn visually and easily about the transition of Tokyo from its traditional culture to the modernization process and up to the present day. The Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall and sumo stables are also nearby, so it is recommended to visit them in conjunction with a stroll around the area.
