It is the only national library in Japan that collects and preserves all publications published in Japan. It has a collection of over 40 million books. You can experience Japanese culture and knowledge here.
The National Diet Library is a national library located in Nagatacho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and belongs to the Japanese legislative branch. As the country's only national library, it is responsible for the "legislation system" that comprehensively collects and preserves all publications published in Japan, and its collection of books totals approximately 45 million items. It is a hub of Japanese knowledge, and is loved by many people as an "open library" that can be used not only by researchers but also by the general public. Adjacent to the National Diet Building, the magnificent building exudes a dignity befitting a hall of knowledge.

Anyone over the age of 18, regardless of nationality, can use the library.

Bags and other items cannot be brought into the library and must be left in a locker. Laptops and other devices can be brought in. There are also seats with power outlets.

For borrowing, you must apply for a membership by mail, and there are quite strict rules.

There is also a cafeteria and a coffee shop inside the library.

[Hidden gem]
There are various reading rooms in the vast library, but the "cafeteria" on the 6th floor is a hidden gem where you can take a break while looking out at the National Diet Building and the city center. The extensive menu is reasonably priced, which is a plus. In addition, the exhibition room on the first floor holds special exhibitions of valuable materials depending on the season, which can be viewed free of charge.
