This mountain castle in Hachioji City has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous castles. It was built by the Hojo clan in 1587. You can feel the romance of history at this historic park, where the history of the castle, which boasted its impregnability, is fused with abundant nature.
Hachioji Castle Ruins is located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and is the site of a mountain castle built by Hojo Ujiyasu during the Sengoku period. Built on Mt. Fukayama at an altitude of 445m, it was said to have been one of the most impregnable castles in the Kanto region. However, it fell during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attack on Odawara, and only stone walls, remains of the enclosure, and moats remain today. However, the remains show the sturdy construction of the time, making it a very interesting place for history fans. It is currently maintained as the "National Historic Site Hachioji Castle Ruins" and is open to the public as a historical park.

The greatest attraction of this castle ruins is its historical weight and the tranquil atmosphere surrounded by nature. As you walk along the walking trails that run through the deep mountains, stone walls and earthworks that recall the time come into view one after another, allowing you to feel the breath of the Sengoku period. In particular, the remains of the main castle and the Goshuden Falls make a strong impression on visitors as they are places that convey the tragedy of the castle's fall. The area is also blessed with abundant nature, and during the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn leaves, you can enjoy a historical stroll surrounded by beautiful scenery.

You will need to be physically fit to climb the mountain to reach the remains of the main citadel.
Volunteer guides to the Hachioji Castle ruins are available in the management building to provide free tours.
