This is the ruins of a castle associated with the Maeda clan of the Kaga domain in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, and is a flatland castle selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous castles.
Takaoka Castle is located in Furushiro, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, on the site of a flat castle built by Maeda Toshinaga, the lord of the Kaga domain. It was built in 1609 (Keicho 14), but was abandoned due to the One Castle per Province Act. Its greatest feature is the shape of the vast moat and the enclosure (kuruwa = a section of the castle/castle) that remain almost perfectly intact from the time of its construction.

It is now developed as the vast Takaoka Old Castle Park. Within the park, the remains of the castle at that time, such as the moat and earthworks, remain in good condition, and the vast site of about 210,000 square meters is popular as a place of relaxation for the citizens of Takaoka and as a spot where tourists can enjoy history and nature.

The greatest attraction of this castle ruins park is its vast site and the beautiful nature in all four seasons. In particular, the moat surrounding the castle is a testament to the strong defense of the past, and the surrounding trees and sky are reflected on the surface of the water, creating a beautiful landscape. In spring, the park is famous for its cherry blossoms, with around 1,800 trees in full bloom, attracting many visitors. It has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots.

The park also houses a small zoo and Takaoka City Museum, making it enjoyable for people of all ages, from children to adults. Both facilities are free to use.
