Oita Funai Castle is located in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, and is the remains of a flat castle built by the feudal lord of Bungo, Otomo Sorin, during the Sengoku period.

The castle remains, but the castle tower no longer exists.

A four-story castle tower was built in 1602, but it was destroyed in a fire in 1743 and has never been rebuilt since.

During the Edo period, it flourished as the residence of the lord of Funai, and even today, the moat, stone walls, and turrets remain in good condition.

It is now maintained as "Funai Castle Site Park," and although it is located in the center of Oita City, it is a place of relaxation for citizens as a space where history and nature are in harmony.

The greatest attraction of this castle site park is the beautiful scenery created by the moat and stone walls. In particular, the vast moat surrounding the castle reflects the surrounding trees and sky on its surface, creating beautiful scenery in every season. The existing Somon Yagura and Otemon Gate ruins still convey the appearance of the castle at that time, and give a sense of the weight of history. There are information boards in the park introducing the achievements of Otomo Sorin, so you can learn about history while you stroll around.

There is no parking lot, so please use the parking lots nearby.
