Ozu Castle is a flatland castle overlooking the Hijikawa River in Ozu, Ehime Prefecture, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan. The faithfully restored wooden castle tower is worth a visit.
Ozu Castle is a beautiful castle located on a hill on the banks of the Hijikawa River in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. The current castle tower is one of the few in Japan to have been completely restored using wood, and the construction methods and techniques of the time have been faithfully reproduced. There are no elevators inside, and you must climb a steep old-fashioned staircase to get to the castle, allowing you to feel the weight of history. From the top floor of the castle tower, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the majestic flow of the Hijikawa River and the castle town.

The greatest attraction of this castle is the faithfulness of the restoration and the precious yagura (turrets) that still remain. In restoring the castle tower, old photographs, drawings, and documents were thoroughly researched, and the original appearance was restored. In addition, the four turrets (kitchen turret, parapet turret, etc.) that remain surrounding the castle tower have been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and you can see these genuine historical structures. Historical materials are also exhibited inside the turrets.
