Located in Iyonagahama, this is the oldest surviving movable road bridge in Japan. Commonly known as the "Red Bridge," it is a symbol of the nostalgic scenery created by the retro streets of Nagahama and the Hijikawa River.
Nagahama Ohashi Bridge is a beautiful red bridge located in Nagahama-cho, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Completed in 1935, this bridge is the oldest surviving road movable bridge (bascule bridge) in Japan, and is affectionately known to locals as the "Red Bridge." The unusual structure in which part of the bridge bascules up conveys the high level of technology at the time, and is considered to be extremely valuable as a civil engineering heritage.

The mechanism is a single-leaf bascule bridge in which the bridge girder opens and closes on one side, and the bridge girder, which weighs about 54 tons, is smoothly opened and closed by a counterweight of about 82 tons placed on the bridge.

Nagahama Ohashi Bridge (Red Bridge) is open every Saturday and public holiday at 11:00 a.m., and every Sunday at 11:24 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., excluding the New Year holidays.
It is illuminated at night in July and August.
