Located in Inazawa City, Aichi Prefecture, Owari Okunitama Shrine, affectionately known as "Konomiya," is a historic shrine that has long attracted worshippers as the main guardian deity of the Owari region. Its main deity is Okunitama-no-kami, the guardian deity of the Owari region, and is said to grant bountiful harvests, protection from misfortune, and household safety. The solemn, sacred atmosphere within the shrine grounds makes one feel as if one's body and mind are purified upon entering.

Konomiya is nationally famous for its unique "Konomiya Naked Festival," held every year in the first month of the lunar calendar. Thousands of men clad in loincloths perform the Naoi Shinto ritual, a powerful and sacred event in which the naked men transfer misfortune to the unlucky man by touching him, and then take on all of his misfortune. This festival has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and is definitely worth seeing.

The grounds are dotted with beautiful main halls, tower gates, and temizuya (purification fountains), giving you a sense of the weight of history. In particular, the giant cedar trees lining the approach, some hundreds of years old, tell the story of the shrine's long history.

The tower gates and worship hall have been designated Important Cultural Properties.
