Located at Jizozaki, the easternmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula, Mihonoseki Lighthouse is the oldest stone lighthouse in Sanin, first lit in 1898. It was the first active lighthouse in the country to be registered as a national tangible cultural property, and was subsequently designated as an important national cultural property on February 9, 2022. It has also been selected as one of the "100 Best Historically Important Lighthouses in the World" and "50 Best Lighthouses in Japan." It is also known as a scenic spot where you can see the majestic Sea of ​​Japan and Mt. Daisen in one go, and is an attractive place that combines historical value and natural beauty.

The greatest attraction of Mihonoseki Lighthouse is its history, its solid stone appearance, and the majestic panorama of the Sea of ​​Japan that can be seen from the lighthouse. It is said to have been built under the guidance of a French engineer during the Meiji period, and its sturdy structure continues to protect the safety of navigation even after more than 100 years. The lighthouse is surrounded by cliffs called Jizozaki, and you can enjoy the rugged beauty of natural formations.
