National Treasure Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine

It is one of Japan's three major Hachimangu shrines, located in Hachiman City, Kyoto Prefecture, where 10 headquarters buildings are designated as national treasures.
The main hall has a unique Hachiman-zukuri structure, with two buildings, the inner and outer buildings, lined up in front of each other. The Hachiman-zukuri style is often seen in shrines that enshrine Hachiman, and the main hall of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine is the largest and oldest existing Hachiman-zukuri style.

The tower gate was rebuilt in the Edo period, and its vivid vermilion color is impressive. The corridor was rebuilt in the Edo period and is about 100 meters long, connecting the main hall and the tower gate. The Treasure Hall was built in the Meiji period and displays the treasures of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine.


Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine is also known for praying to ward off evil, and is bustling with worshipers throughout the year. It is also famous as a power spot and is a popular tourist spot visited by many worshipers.
Okumiya, located on the top of Mt. Hachiman, is especially popular as a power spot.
