At the plaza at the top of the mountain, there is a rest area where you can feed the monkeys. Monkey food can be purchased at the shop and handed to the monkeys through the window. The rest area also offers a spectacular view of the Arashiyama streetscape, Kyoto city, and even the distant mountains. Enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in autumn, allowing you to enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons.
Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama is not just a place to see monkeys; it also offers a rare experience of interacting with animals in nature. Just watching the adorable baby monkeys, the boss monkeys, and other unique monkeys is soothing.
It takes about 20 minutes to climb to the observation deck at the top (halfway up the mountain).
[Helpful Tips]
There are many slopes and stairs leading up to the summit, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing. Also, since the monkeys are wild animals, please be careful not to make eye contact with them or touch them. The monkeys may return to the mountain in the evening.
