Kumaoka Confectionery is a long-established confectionery shop that specializes in "hard buns," founded in 1896. Characterized by a fragrant aroma that spreads in your mouth and a surprisingly firm texture, they are popular as souvenirs.
Located in front of Zentsuji Temple, the head temple of Kumaoka Confectionery, their signature product is Katapan. It's a simple-tasting hard tack made from a mixture of flour and sugar, baked to perfection. It's known for its chewy texture and simple sweetness.

Kumaoka Confectionery's greatest appeal is the simple flavor hidden within its hardness. When you chew it, the fragrant aroma of wheat and the gentle sweetness of the simple sugar fill your mouth. Because of its hardness, it's difficult to eat in one bite, so we recommend breaking it up into small pieces and eating it. It also keeps well, making it a perfect souvenir.
