Okayama City's modern waterworks began operation in 1905. The Waterworks Memorial Museum occupies a building that was formerly the power house and water pump house during the city's early days. Its modern red-brick exterior preserves its ancestral appearance and was designated a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2005. Completely renovated in 2022, the museum was reborn as a place for people of all ages to experience and learn about water.

The museum offers a wide range of educational content for visitors to enjoy. In addition to permanent exhibits such as "Water Journey," "Water Purification Plant Adventure Tour," and "A Historical Timeline with a Doctor," visitors can also experience the properties of water and how water purification works through popular activities such as "Exploring the Asahikawa Dam with the Magic Faucet: Pump-Up Water" and "Water Production Begins in the Forest."

Video explanations, hands-on interactive equipment, video quizzes, and simple games make learning about water from the waterworks a fun experience.

It's also a popular place for finding independent research topics, and is enjoyable for everyone from elementary school students to adults. It's especially recommended for children in grades 1 to 4.
