The Kokugikan Sumo Hall in Tokyo is the home of Japan's national sport, where the main sumo tournaments are held. You can experience the fierce battles of sumo wrestlers and traditional Japanese culture.
Ryogoku Kokugikan in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, is a sacred place for sumo fans, where the main tournaments of sumo wrestling, Japan's national sport, are held. The main tournaments are held every January, May, and September, and many spectators cheer on the wrestlers as they passionately clash. Watching sumo is a valuable experience that allows you to experience traditional Japanese culture, and it is very popular with foreign tourists. During the tournament, the entire venue is filled with excitement and you can enjoy a unique atmosphere.

The Kokugikan also has a sumo museum, where you can learn about the history of sumo, rankings, and nishiki-e prints of past yokozuna (there may be restrictions on admission during the main tournament). There are also plenty of shops selling sumo goods and restaurants produced by sumo wrestlers, so you can enjoy looking for souvenirs and eating. The gorgeous culture unique to sumo, such as the dohyo-iri ceremony and the gorgeous mawashi worn by the wrestlers, is also worth a look.

It is also easily accessible, just a 2-minute walk from Ryogoku Station on the JR Sobu Line. Even outside of the sumo season, various events are held at the stadium, and it is worth visiting just to see the magnificent architecture. Experience the depth of traditional Japanese culture and the thrilling matches between sumo wrestlers up close, and create unforgettable memories of your trip to Tokyo.
