Kagami Museum of Modern Art is a museum renovated from an old Edo-period house in Kagamino-cho, Tomata-gun, Okayama Prefecture. It is a hidden gem where you can enjoy the quiet of a mountain village, focusing on works by artists who died young or left unfinished, and Bizen ware.
Kagami Museum of Modern Art is a private museum that displays the owner's collection, which he has amassed over the years, in a warm space renovated from a century-old traditional Japanese house. The interior, with its thick beams and hearth, offers a charming "life and art" atmosphere where the paintings and the building resonate with each other. Its relaxed atmosphere, where visitors can enjoy art while sipping coffee, is also popular. Located in the satoyama area, just a few minutes' drive from Okutsu Onsen, it has become increasingly popular as a detour for hot spring trips.

The core of the exhibition focuses on "unfinished, unfinished artists" from all over Japan who left their talents behind despite their early deaths. Drawings, oil paintings, and prints by artists such as Sato Seizaburo, Okamoto Kiichi, Tanaka Tamotsu, Hasegawa Toshiyuki, Koga Harue, and Koide Naraju span a wide range of eras and techniques, and the commentary detailing the artists' backgrounds is also well-received. The museum also features outstanding Bizen ware, primarily by contemporary artists. The exhibition, showcasing the paintings and vessels complementing each other, adds depth to the viewing experience.

You can enjoy the artworks at your leisure in a charming space with its remaining wooden beams and pillars.

[Trivia]
- Opened in 2018, this warm, private museum began as the owner's "salaryman collection," and the appearance of the old house itself is a highlight.
